We had a few hours of sunlight left after we set up camp at Laupahoehoe, and we still had things we wanted to see and do. So we headed to Akaka Falls State Park. It was drizzling when we got there, and raining pretty hard when we left. There is a short trail to an overlook where you get a nice view of the falls, which is about 422 feet high. Since we're on the east side of the island, it's in a tropical forest, so there were more cool things to look at along the trail.

There are waterfalls everywhere on the east side of the big island, and this was no exception. Kahuna Falls is beautiful in its own right; but Akaka Falls is pretty picture-perfect, your prototypical tropical jungle waterfall. I guess I can't really vouch for that, as I'm not sure about the plunge pool at the bottom; but I suspect it's pretty good.

It was getting close to dark when we were done, so we headed back to our camp at Laupahoehoe to fix dinner.
