When I got back to the United States, instead of going straight home I detoured to Austin, Texas, to visit Jenny and Charlie Plesums . Charlie introduced me to computers, taught me a lot about assembly language programming, and helped me get my first programming work. So I guess in some way he is responsible for me being able to go to Belize and Guatemala to sail. We had a good, but short, visit. Jenny works as a virtual CFO, providing CFO and general financial services to startups and other small businesses. It seems like a great idea to me, since many small companies don't need a CFO full time, but could benefit from having a real professional in that capacity. In his spare time, Charlie is now doing woodworking , and we went to a local exhibit where he had some pieces on display.

From Austin I went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I visited Ruth and Charlie Needham. They had just returned from a trip to Japan to honor a long time friend and fellow researcher of Charlie's.

Then I went north to Larkspur, Colorado. I helped mom and dad with a few projects, and then hopped the bus home. I'm delighted to be back. I've got a bazillion projects staring me in the face, and I'm raring to get started on all of them. But I'm also looking forward to sailing some more.
