Our last hike was a day hike over on the Dearborn River.
We went up about four miles to Devil's Glen,
where we cooled off jumping off the rocks into its clear, cold deep pools.

Ever since he was a little kid,
Ian has liked jumping off cliffs into rivers and lakes.
The Dearborn, with it's deep pools and wonderful cliffs,
was just too enticing to pass up,
especially when you considered how hot it was.

Always the showman... |
Ker-plush! |
Yah! |
I hate being shown up by my kid,
and besides, it was hot.
Trudy suggested I take off my glasses before I lept,
but I told her I always held my hand over my face to hold them on...
and promptly jumped off with both arms spread wide
for the camera...
As soon as I hit the water I realized I hadn't held my glasses on,
and stuck my hand up to my face.
Yikes! No glasses!
I opened my eyes and couldn't see anything,
but as soon as I surfaced I stuck my head back in the water
and looked again.
I still couldn't see squat, because (duh!) I didn't have my glasses on...
but I swam my arm around flailing for them,
and by some miracle touched them over on the right...
but couldn't grab them.
I looked again, and saw a few sparkles over on the left,
and flailed again.
That time I managed to grab them.
Whew!
I jumped again,
and remembered to hold them on...

Cold water, find a closer get-out |

Somewhere there's a picture of an ape
that looks kinda like this... |
ooh-ooh-ooh that's cold! |
Smile and pretend it's not |
Trudy needed to cool off too...
|

|
|
|
Wasn't it down there? |
Onward! |
Brrr, I want out now! |
This is the get-out, right? |
Dang-it! |
|
|
|
|
|
Geez! it's a long ways... |
It's slippery! |
More than one way
to get out at the get-out |
How about a hand? |
Whoooee! |
Indy saw no need to jump in.
It was more fun nosing around
and resting up for the return trip.
|
|
What's up? |
Borrrring... |
There was this cool pilar standing in the middle of the river,
just inviting you to stand on it...

|
Hmmm... |
Hope I hit the dry spot... |
No problem! |

Where's the GQ photo-person? |

Mmmm, strong like bull... |
with corncob up my ass |
Cool control... |
It is a gorgeous little canyon, well worth the short hike.
